So the challenge of any site, really, when starting out is the matter of getting attention. In my case, readers. As I write this, I have maybe 3 or 4 readers: clearly, not enough to generate the ad revenue necessary for me to retire luxuriously at my not-so-advanced age. It becomes necessary, then, for a man to result to tactics generally referred to as 'advertising', or perhaps, 'marketing'. I have been able, however, to rule out the following options:
  • Viral marketing campaign: Given that my site is more viral than any viral site that could ever hope to be, this is probably not my strongest option.

  • Smear campaign: Somehow, I get the feeling that this would backfire.

  • Email spam campaign: Although I might be able to put a link to here alongside stock tips, I can't really see me getting the sort of traffic desired from such a tactic. Maybe in those vliaglra ads... hm...

So then I must consider what options are left to me. The lottery of getting 'featured' by some mass-trafficked site is one option, but that probably requires a) hand-drawn characters and b) a posse of people to fakevote for me in the first place. Neither of which, I might add, I have. The "OVK Posse", as we like to be called, is very selective. No one applies, and fewer still are admitted.

The obvious option, then, is paid advertising. I balk at this, though, because it requires (intrinsicly, I'm afraid) money. Which I have, true, but am loathe to part with.

Welcome to the newly-redesigned Overklocked Comics! If you're new here, there's not much to it -- just take a look at our latest comic, and if you like it, take a look at our archive.
Vanguard

So... the latest comic is gonna be kinda a mystery for anyone who isn't playing Vanguard as a crafter, really. Here's the basic way it works--Sigil buffs the adventurers, does nothing except partial bugfixes for crafters. Maybe they break our Level 11 Need-To-Do-To-Continue Quest, maybe they break our tools; you know, whatever.

But they don't really beat us with baseball bats.

Usually.

And to their credit, they don't have very many rusty nails in those bats. A lot of people wouldn't be so considerate... we should really be thanking them for not nerfing us more!

But seriously, it's not that Sigil is nerfing us, so much as not-not-not-helping us. You know. They're not un-de-nerfing us, to put it another way.

Cop out

So I have a comic sort of in the 10% done phase, but to tide over the non-existant readerbase one of my homies (not really) made this guest comic. I gave him the graphics, which he used in a rudimentary fashion, and helped out a bit with the script, but the idea and assembly was his work.

In other news... I'm going to work on a new flash movie, one for a school project; I'll try to formulate it so that it can be posted here and shared amongst the internets.

And a link, ala VG Cats: Gangsta Rap -- sorta.
Windows ME

Ah, good times. Well, no, not really. Have you ever used Windows ME? If not, imagine using Windows XP. Then, imagine everything that has ever gone wrong with Windows in your experience go wrong in the next 5 minutes. Getting the picture? We're not done yet -- the entire time, imagine that someone's standing right next to you singing a horrendously butchered version of your favorite song. Once you have imagined this, you can, possibly, understand what ME was like.

Additionally, for those of you who completely missed the reference... read 2001/3001 Space Odyssey.

Comments system is in, by the way. And I don't make you register to post a comment... meaning, it will get horribly abused, but at least I'll think I'm popular.

Da D-shizzle is out of dis N-shizzle, yo.

Edit: Special thanks to Core Xii for doing a bunch of shading and stuff for this comic. If it's shaded, he did it.

New comic up

Comic's about Burning Crusade (duh) which came out last week. All you addicts should have picked it up that same day or preordered it; everyone else (yes, both of you) can get it this week.

I'm not going to amp up my advertising efforts, as paltry as they may be, quite yet. I want to get a better comic up, first... one with da chief and Gordon and plenty o' allusions. Maybe this weekend, but that's when Vanguard beta releases... so maybe not.

D out, yo.

Wait a second

I forgot about that pesky sidebar to my left. Looks like I'm not done yet.
